Statutory Research

Nowadays there is an increase in legal research outsourcing. This would maximize law firm profitability and save time.

Statutory Research is a part of legal research in legal services / LPO services. When you begin to research a legal issue, you should always ensure to see if there is an applicable statute, because most areas of federal and state law are directed by statues and their corresponding regulations.

The strategies for legal research are:

• Locate the statute
• Update the research through Sheppard’s citations( called Shepardizing)

The primary method to find statute is by using the Lexis Nexis. Lexis nexis is the tool which contains current statutes and laws of countries mainly US, UK, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and a large volume of published case opinions. The secondary method to locate the statute is to use general index, title table of contents and popular names.
